On the way to Cape May – April 2006

Well if all goes well I’ll be hauling to the boat down to Cape May this weekend. For the past few weeks I’ve been getting the boat ready for this season. I should say we have been getting the boat ready for this season; I’ve had a lot of help from some friends.

The boat has been washed, the old wax and oxidation have been stripped off; a few layers of new wax have been applied. New bottom paint went on; the black antifouling paint on the out drive was stripped and replaced with a clear antifouling paint. The engine and gear oil have been changed, a new exhaust bellows and a new distributor cap were installed. New propeller installed. New batteries are in, hard wired in my hand held chart plotter and mounted the stereo. The stereo isn’t completely hooked up yet. A new anchor line and chain have been connected to the anchor. The new name has been applied to the stern. And probably a lot of other little things could be added to this list.

So the plan is to head down to Cape May Saturday morning. If the weather is as bad, as they are predicting, I’m not going to put the boat in the slip yet, I’ll drop the boat off at Heritage Towers and let them install the new radar arch at their shop. If the weather is good the boat is going in the slip at the Bree Zee Lee, and the guys from Heritage will install the Arch right at the marina during the week.
