It’s been a short summer.

I haven’t written anything in the blog in the past few weeks, mostly because I haven’t had anything exciting to write about. Next weekend is the end of the Summer Flounder season in NJ. I’ve been down to Cape May every weekend since the season opened; so far I haven’t caught one keeper size fluke yet. I’ve caught plenty of shorts but nothing over 18 inches.

I went to the Old Grounds and Reef Site 11 last weekend, I caught 4 shorts at the Old Grounds and Jim caught one short at Reef Site 11. The weekend before that was pretty much the same thing. Before that I went to the Cape May reef a few times and caught some shorts. And a few weeks before that we fished by the 9 and 10 Buoys in the bay and only caught shorts. So it has been a short summer.

On Aug 28th the Bree Zee Lee held it Fluke tournament. Needless to say we didn’t win. At the Captains meeting on Friday Night there were 40 boats signed up, and there may have been a few more that signed in after that. The winning flounder was over 6.5 lbs.

It looks like Hurricane Earl may impact the last weekend of Fluke fishing, so I might be done with flounder fishing for the season. Hopefully I’ll get one more chance to get out there this weekend.

I caught a Striped Bass right off my boat in the slip at the Bree Zee Lee Yatch Basin. I caught this bass at about 5:15 AM on Aug 14th. I slept on the boat that night and all night long I could hear the bass splashing and crashing the bait fish that is all over the marina. So when I got up I decided to throw a line in from the pulpit of my boat. I would say this one was about 18 inches long. He was released right after this photo was taken. I'll update the rest of this blog later
